Fulfilling Children's Potential

Admissions

Children and their parents are encouraged to visit the school before making an application. Please contact the school office for an appointment. An application should be made in writing on the appropriate forms, alternatively you may make an application online at Consideration will be given to all applications and a locally agreed admissions procedure will be followed. The booklet ‘A Guide to Admissions in the Wootton Bassett Area’ is available from the Local Authority. In the event of the school receiving too many applications for places, published criteria will be used.

Successful applicants will be informed as soon as possible, and informed of the schools’ induction process. The Local Authority Rising-Fives Policy for admitting children into school is as follows:

Birthdays between: -
• 1st September and 31st March - full time from the Autumn Term;
• 1st April and 31st August - part time during the Autumn Term, and full time from the Spring Term.

Close links exist between Longleaze Primary School and all the local pre-schools. Members of staff visit the pre-schools regularly. Pre-school children, with their supervisors, may visit the school in return. We wish to ensure a smooth and happy start to your child’s days at Longleaze. Therefore, in the term prior to admission, rising-fives are invited to spend some afternoons in school with their class group to sample school life. During this time your child may also be allowed to take home a variety of carefully structured activities for you to share together. Home visits are also undertaken to see the child in his/her home setting. Further details will be sent upon your child's acceptance.

Normal admission arrangements apply. The admissions policy is based on the agreed Wiltshire policy. We strive to be a fully inclusive school. All children will be treated according to their needs in line with the school’s policy for equality of opportunity. No child will be denied admission because of his or her gender, colour, culture, origin, ability disability or academic attainment. Where a child has a particular need, e.g. wheelchair access, the governors will make every effort to ensure the child’s needs are fully met. Two toilets and a shower are accessible for all. Ramps and steps are available for access to all classrooms. There is a specialist learning centre within the school. The special needs coordinator is also the specialist centre teacher and possesses specialist knowledge and qualifications relating to special educational needs (SEN).

If a child is transferring into the school with a statement, or has been receiving extra support in their previous school, the continuation of this support will be negotiated with the Local Authority (LA) to ensure their needs can be met. Any variation to the above will need to be agreed by the full governing body.
